This particular black tea comes from a 70 year old family owned farm in Fujian. While this is an excellent tea, we occasionally bring it’s superior, Golden Eyebrows Jin Jun Mei. Kenyan black & purple tea*, black currant, hibiscus*, butterfly pea flower, lemon myrtle*, peppercorn, elderflower*, flavor, *organic.

Rift Valley Currant is our premiere black currant tea blend. Black currants, sometimes spelled blackcurrant, are native to Europe. The taste of this tea, like a black currant, is tart and earthy, with whispers of sweet. The name Rift Valley Currant is a merger of healthy black currants and some of our Kenyan teas. The Great Rift Valley of Africa is a 3,700-mile-long trench that passes through all of Kenya.

The name of this tea honors the Kenyan teas we source from this region. We took a purple color approach to this blend and paired the black currant with two of our Kenyan teas – Hand Rolled Purple and Beliote Black (beliot(e) means elephant in Nandi (an indigenous clan from the Western Highlands)). And then we took the purple even further and added Butterfly Pea Flowers. This purple blend has a health angle, too.

Black currants are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, while the purple tea, with high amounts of anthocyanin, are antioxidant rich, too. Along with antioxidants from the butterfly pea flowers, this blend is an antioxidant super kicker. Rift Valley Currant is delicious. Don’t expect it to be berry sweet, but rather complex and layered. The liquor’s various hues of purple is beautiful and full-bodied. This tea is stupendous hot and fabulous cold!

Kenyan black tea.

Sunrise in Kenya is our Kenyan CTC black tea that carries a serious punch. CTC stands for “cut tear curl”, which means the tea leaf is cut to a very small size. This allows the tea to brew faster and stronger. The caffeine in the tea is released faster too. As you might imagine with the boldness of this tea, it makes a great morning tea. CTC are typically drank with milk and sugar, if that’s how you like it. Full bodied and bold. This tea is also a good kombucha tea. If you’re into fermenting tea, this black is a good choice! Organic Japanese matcha, flavor.

Wild Strawberry Matcha has the perfect amount of strawberry blended with matcha.  YUM! Matcha is tea leaves in powdered form which is brewed and consumed in its entirety. Because the whole tea leaves are consumed, both nutrients and caffeine content are higher than in infused teas.

Japanese Bancha Green Tea, Roasted Rice

This tea is sometimes referred to as “popcorn tea” because the rice kernels are popped. This Japanese tea blend has a buttery, nutty flavor. Sipping this tea conjures images of fragrant Japanese tea houses. The aroma is rich and velvety, and the taste is balanced.

Genmai Cha has less caffeine than a straight green because it’s blended with rice, which makes it a great tea any time of day. The green tea and rice are a carry over from a period in Japan, when many couldn’t afford a straight green tea. Rather, they drank the “people’s tea” from roasted rice or a blend of green tea and roasted rice. This practice evolved into what we now know as the nutty tasting green blend, Genmai Cha.

This roasted rice and green tea blend is good to drink with a meal or after dinner. The tea helps cleanse the palate. It has a grassy, vegetal taste, in addition to a toasty note with the rice. The roasted rice doesn’t overwhelm, but rather adds another layer of flavor. This green tea and roasted rice blend is popular with the younger generation in Japan tea culture.
